O foco do texto é a estrutura ARE THERE ANY + PALAVRA NO PLURAL.
NOTAS EXPANDIDAS
Nos textos anteriores vimos como dizer que há alguma coisa e que não há alguma coisa. Por exemplos: There is a dog in the backyard, but there aren’t any cats = Tem um cachorro no quintal, mas não tem gatos. Agora, veremos como fazer perguntas.
Se estamos falando de algo no PLURAL – como cats, dogs, bananas, apples, computers, chairs e students, por exemplo (gatos, cachorros, bananas, maçãs, computadores, cadeiras e estudantes) – usamos a estrutura ARE THERE ANY.
Vamos ver mais exemplos abaixo. Notem que, em português, nem sempre usaríamos essas palavras no plural. Contudo, em inglês, essas perguntas são todas naturais. Em geral, quando queremos saber sobre a existência de algo/alguém em um lugar ou uma situação específica, usamos o plural.
Lembrando também que, em português, podemos nestes casos usar os verbos haver, ter ou existir, sendo que haver é mais formal e ter é o mais comum no dia a dia.
